Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein that has to ability to relax strong and hyperactive muscles that cause facial wrinkles.

Botox can be used for the following:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Wrinkles between the eyebrows
  • Crows Feet (Wrinkles at the corner of the eyes)
  • Bunny Lines (lines on the side of your nose)
  • Headaches
  • Sweaty armpits (hyperhydrosis)

Is Botox safe?

Botox is a FDA approved medication. The amount of Botox needed to treat facial lines and wrinkles is very safe, demonstrated by the face that millions of Botox treatments have been performed worldwide over the past 3 decades. Botox is not recommended for women who are pregnant or are nursing. This is not because of any known adverse effects but rather due to the fact that no studies have been performed on pregnant or nursing mothers receiving Botox.

Who is a candidate for Botox?

Anyone who notices line and wrinkles forming on their forehead, between the eyebrows, and the corners of their eyes can be a candidate for Botox.

When should I start to get Botox treatments?

  • If you look up and see line on your forehead.
  • If you frown or wake up in the morning and you see lines between your eyebrows.
  • If you smile and see wrinkles form in the corner of your eyes.

Preventing lines from forming permanently on your face is always easier, safer, and more cost effective then treating the lines once they are permanent a deep.

Will my facial expressions change?

This is a common misconception of Botox. Done correctly and by a trained professional, Botox injections give normal facial expressions with all the dynamic movements of the face. The results should be natural and subtle, your friends and family will not know you have anything procedures performed, only that you look younger and more wrinkle free.

What are some of the advantages of Botox?

  • Botox is a non-surgical treatment for wrinkles.
  • Botox effects are quick and dramatic.
  • Botox can help prevent certain wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions.
  • Botox injections are relatively painless.
  • The effect of Botox is not permanent.

Can Botox be combined with any other treatments?

Combining Botox with filler (i.e. - Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra) can give you an instant face lift with no downtime.

Do Botox injections hurt?

Botox is administered using a very small and fine needle. Most patients experience very minimal discomfort, similar to the sensation of having facial hairs plucked. Every physician’s technique is different so patients might feel a different level of discomfort depending on which clinic they receive the injection at. Here at this clinic, our physicians are experts at making Botox injections almost pain free.

What are the potential risks and complications of Botox?

Under the care of trained medical professionals, Botox treatments are extremely safe. As with any injections, there is always a small chance of bruising, bleeding, and infections. Our injections are always performed in a sterile manner to minimize infection complications. A medical professional will review all risk and the patient will be given a form to review all the risk before the procedure is performed.

How much do Botox injections cost?

The cost of Botox depends on the amount used. The amount is measured in units and the larger and stronger the muscles being treated, the higher the number of units is required to produce the desired effects. Selling Botox by the syringe is a marketing ploy.

Cost of Botox by area (this only represent a range, some patients may require more or less Botox which would increase or decrease the cost)

  • Forehead Wrinkles: $100-$200
  • Between the Eyebrow: $150-$250
  • Side of eyes (crows feet) : $80-$150 per side
  • Headaches: $100-$200
  • Hyperhydrosis (Excessive underarm sweating): $500-$700 (both sides)

How long will the effects of Botox last?

Typically, it takes 3-5 days for the Botox to start to take effect, and it may take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of Botox. You will usually start to see wrinkles re-appearing after 2 ½ to 3 months will the full effects wearing off in 4 months.

Are there any medications I need to stop before Botox injections?

You want to avoid any blood thinners 2 weeks before the treatment as this might cause an increase risk of bruising at the injection site. Some of the most common blood thinners but not all are: aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, coumadin, ginseng, and ginkgo.
